Pride can be a good thing.

Tonight is my daughter’s first saxophone concert at school. She is in the 4th grade and started playing in the beginning band in September. She had never played a musical instrument before, other than the recorder. She goes to a public school. A really good public school where they have computers and things like an afterschool band program. Each family is responsible for raising $100 annually to support the band. Doable.

I saw the band director the other day. He told me that my daughter was the best of the group! A week later he told my friend, whose daughter used to be in his band before she moved on to a renowned middle school of the arts, that my daughter is his best performer!

Wow. My kid. My wonderfully funny, musically inclined, adorably 9 year old kid. Talk about pride.
