My birthday has come and gone. And what a birthday it was. It unfolded exactly how I wanted it to, even down to the things I couldn’t control like the weather. It was in the low seventies with a breeze. Perfect. And the room we got at the hotel. Awesome. With a HydroTherm massage system giant tub.

The day started the night before with dinner made by my husband, of course. Stone crab appetizer, seared scallop salad and arugula and shallot encrusted cobia. Sounds like its Lent. And Champagne and red wine.

Saturday morning we went for a power walk and lifted weights, something I really enjoy doing when I have the time. Then shower, pack and off to a Mexican restaurant called “Rocco’s Tacos” that we hadn’t been to before. The food was great as was the pitcher of Rocco’s Ritas. Then to the hotel, the amazing room right off of the pool and a two hour walk around the island.

Back to the hotel for a little R & R (R rated), a dip in the in-room spa, a nap then dressed for cocktails and dinner. The restaurant is in the hotel and we’ve been there a bunch of times. Love it. Dirty Martini with Blue cheese stuffed olives. Oysters, crab salad, beet salad, duo of beef, cheese course, port….. Some late night dancing in the hotel bar. And then bedtime underneath really comfortable sheets.

This morning, we woke up and drove home. Dinner tonight with the kids was the same dinner that I always had for my birthday when I was a kid. Steak, green bean casserole, roasted potatoes and ice cream sundaes.

Only 363 days left until the next one.
